If you are a seasoned magician then you already have a good collection of props on hand to use at a moments notice.  But if you are just starting out, there are several things that you will need to in your “Magician’s Supply Box” that will assist you in performing your new skills, and also give you some good tools to practice with. Here are the necessities:

First, you will need a good box to keep your supplies in.  A fishing tackle box will do just fine.  Make sure its not heavy and cumbersome, but something with several sections where your props can be divided in an organized way.

Now, for your coin magic tricks, you will need some coins.  The best ones are JFK half-dollars.  They are a great size, especially for beginners.  Have a few of these on hand.  You will also need a small coin purse.  This is optional.  Some magicians simply like to keep their “magic” coins in their pockets.  Others like them in their own special container.  You will also need a small translucent glass with a recessed bottom.

For your card magic you will need a minimum of identical 4 decks of cards, 2 red and 2 blue.  No need to have any specialized decks until later.  Regular cards will suffice at this point in your career.

If you want to do any rope magic, purchase a cotton clothes line, and also have a pair of scissors.  You will also need a handkerchief and a fake thumb tip.  These are staples in any magicians took kit.  Also good to have on hand is some black thread, or invisible thread, and some magician’s wax.

David Copperfield is the most popular and richest magician.  In fact he ranks among the wealthiest of all entertainers.  He has touched millions through his television shows as well as live tours.  If you’ve ever seen his show, it’s amazing how “down to earth” he is for presenting such a grand show.

Doug Henning was the best-known magician in the world during the 70’s and 80’s.  Many think that because of him, magic as an art form really made a comeback during this time.  Sadly, he died too early at the age of 52.  He remains in our hearts as one of the best of the best.

David Blaine is best known for his “street magic” and his incredible and well marketed physical stunts.  He has quickly become one of the most recognizable faces of magic.

Lance Burton is so well liked that he has a theatre built specifically for him in Las Vegas.  He is under a 13-year contract with the Monte Carlo, which is the longest entertainment contract in Las Vegas history.  WOW!

Criss Angel has his own A&E television show “Mindfreak” of which he is the creator and star.  He decided to bring his art to the masses and that’s exactly what he does.  He also star in the Cirque de Soleil production of “Criss Angel: Believe” in Las Vegas.  Who wouldn’t want to be him?

Franz Harary has become famous for his large, impressive illusions such as vanishing the Space Shuttle at the Kennedy Space Center.  He is in constant demand worldwide.

When most people think of Magicians, the image of a man pulling a rabbit out of a hat comes to mind.  Today, magic is so much more.  David Copperfield has been performing mind-blowing illusions on a grand scale, and magicians such as Chris Angel are performing what’s called Street Magic.  Where he uses everyday objects to perform incredible “in your face” illusions to create the shock in his audiences that he is so good at.

Many people have come to enjoy magic, but not many really understand where it all started.  Magic actually dates back to 50,000 BC.  It’s unbelievable to think that it’s been around that long.  Scientists believe that the drawings and sketching of cave men were a form of magic.  Their drawings were of hunting or trapping animals and they believed that these images would actually come to life.  This gave them confidence in their hunting, and this was their “magic”.

Ancient Egyptians used magic symbols, amulets, figures and rites as their magic.  They believed it would bring them success in their crops, etc.  The ancient Greeks and Romans used crystal balls to foresee their futures.

During the Middle Ages, Europeans strongly believed in magic.  Chemists during that time believed that there were two magic devices that they were always in search of, the philosopher’s stone and the elixir of life.  The philosopher’s stone was said to change metal, lead and other substances to gold.  And the elixir of life was said to sure many diseases.  This was their magic.

From the 1500s to the 1700s magic really began to spread around the world.  Some people fully believed in it’s powers while other felt it was nothing but a hoax.

Magic has certainly changed over the years and is now something much more entertaining and less supernatural.

Sometime there are so many new magic tricks coming out that we may miss some real gems. These are new products you should get and are recommended.
