To Reveal Or Not To Reveal? That Is The Question

by Best Magic Secrets Revealed on January 26, 2010

If magic has a cardinal sin, it would be that a magician never reveals his magic tricks.  This is ingrained into a magicians mind from the moment he learns his first trick.

If an audience member learned about how it was done, somehow the fun or the mystery would disappear and ruin it for them.  It’s almost like finding out there is no Santa Claus.

We all can remember the disappointment that came along with that discovery!  However, the belief that a magician should never reveal his tricks doesn’t quite hold as much weight as it used to.

Some magicians still believe this to be the case NO MATTER WHAT, and will go to their grave with all their secrets tucked away nice and safe.  But the new school way of thinking is a little more lenient.  There are many magicians now that believe that not only is it OK to reveal their magic, but they even charge people for it.

There are numerous websites that do exactly that.  They reveal tricks on a rotating basis and some of them have what they call a magic exchange.  This is where in order to obtain how to do some tricks, you must first submit a certain number of magic tricks to the site-an exchange!

The submitted tricks are tested at first to make sure they work.  And if they are chosen, then that magician gains access to the other tricks available.  Then there are other sites that charge a membership fee.  This is usually a yearly or monthly fee, and once paid allows the member the access to the entire magic trick database.  Sometimes they take in submitted tricks by members but for the most part the database is fully created by the owners.

Most magicians feel that this kind of magic trick exchange is OK, since it’s magicians helping out other magicians.  But how do we know that it isn’t just some curious person who is not a magician?  Perhaps we will never know.  Does it really matter? To reveal or not to reveal will probably be a question for as long as we have this wonderful art of magic.  And it will continue to be enjoyed by young and old.
