Tips For Using Invisible Thread

by Best Magic Secrets Revealed on December 14, 2009

There are so many magic tricks.  There are tricks with cards, tricks with coins, disappearing, reappearing, etc.  But if you really want to wow your audience then learning to levitate something using invisible thread is a must.  Here are some tips to keep in mind as you are mastering this awesome skill.  This is best utilized in close up magic, but can also play big with the right props and right thread.

First, what is invisible thread?  This magician’s thread is actually a very thin strand of nylon.  It is primarily used to float small objects.  When it first came out magicians had to be extremely careful with how they held it in their hands.  Now the thread comes on a reel to make it much easier to use and allows the magician to keep a constant tension on the thread, which avoids mishaps.

You must consider the size of the thread when you use it.  The larger the reel, the longer the thread you have to use. Use a small reel for close up work.  For larger effects, they make them in lengths of 35 feet.  Imagine floating a dollar bill across the stage, or even across your lawn with it anchored to the ground!

When floating objects make sure to choose objects that will not be too heavy and thus cause the thread to sag.  The dollar bill is probably the most popular item, but also rings work well and empty soda cans.  Just choose something that can maintain its shape as it moves in space.

Also keep in mind what the lighting is like if you are performing with invisible thread.  Bright lights tend to reflect off the thread and make it easier for the audience to see it.  Also dark clothing tends to be a backdrop for the thread making it easier to see.  Light, non-reflective clothing, and cloudy days or dimmer lights tend to work best.

Finally you want to leave your audience wanting more.  Don’t let any flotation go too long.  It’s a great ender to a good show.  But make it short and sweet! You can find some outstanding supplies to make sure that your show is awesome at the MagicTrickStore.com. Just click here and off you go.
